Hey Amazing Soul!

Bad things happen to ALL of us from time to time. It happens. And when you own a business people will do you wrong from time to time. I was just screwed over by a client today, but I am not surprised (I saw it coming with the lies in the form of excuses that were being told to me over the past few months). I learned a big lesson in this.

Working for Free

This client owed me money for services I already performed. I mentor because I want to help others, but I have learned you have to draw a healthy boundary for yourself in order to protect yourself. Yes, the Golden Rule is said because karma DOES exist.
From now I know exactly what I’m going to do in order to prevent this from happening ever again (it has happened to me 2 times, and 2 times is ENOUGH). I consulted with my lawyer, I have no clue what my lawyer will say about it, but I at least know my plan of action going forward. And so should you.

What is Your Plan of Action for Your Business in order to Protect It?

Your business is your baby. You work hard at it, you work long hours in it. You deserve to protect not only yourself, but your business. And you deserve to get paid for your services. So, what is your plan of action for scenarios that aren’t filled with roses and unicorns? I think it’s a great exercise to do through journaling.

We All Have Our Journey & Karma Exists for a Reason

But you know what? Despite the fact that I got screwed over today by a lot of money owed to me, I am choosing to respond in an empowering way. This is what truly matters overall: your response. On the way home I stopped at the store, a man in front of me was trying to buy a soda and some snacks. His card got declined for “insufficient funds”. I paid for his stuff. I mean, come on, who doesn’t deserve a soda and some snacks on a Friday at 6pm?
But it’s not just about responding in a kind way just because someone has wronged you. It’s about looking at the BIG PICTURE, overall, most of the time. Yeah, I’m frustrated and I’m a little pissed about getting screwed over like I did. But at the end of the day, I gotta forge ahead and KEEP GOING. Karma exists, I don’t wish ill upon this person, but after today I will not entertain what happened to me within my mindset because the big picture is so much better and brighter than what happened to me.
And this is what I mean by your choice with your response. I’m not worried about this client, they will get the lesson they need to learn. I have learned my own lesson in this.
And when this type of thing happens to you, take it, acknowledge it, and let it go. Write a blog post, do a venting video, write in your journal, buy yourself some beer, do what you gotta do to help you let go and move forward. Brighter things are coming for you and there is so much MORE out there FOR you.

We Are All in This Business Boat Together

I believe in you, you have a purpose in this world. Keep going, keep shining, and don’t let 1 client, 2 clients, hell, even 20 clients get you down. Brainstorm your plan of action going forward so you’re making empowering choices for yourself and protecting your business. It’s your baby, it’s your blood, sweat, and tears. And have faith because this setback is to help you level up and grow– just like it has done for me.
I really wanted to write this blog post so those of you out there who feel like all the shit keeps happening to you, but not to others, know that shit happens to ALL of us.

You’ve got this!

XOXO Jaclyn
